So, your big day has arrived and now you are finally getting to walk down to your happily ever after. Many months will have passed and suddenly you are standing at the top of the aisle waiting to commence your journey – but to soothe your nerves what music will you choose to accompany your walk?
From ‘The Bridal March’ by Wargner or Pachelbel’s ‘Canon in D Major’ to ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri or Ed Sheeran’s ‘Perfect’, your processional song sets the tone for your big day.
Music is an important part of our lives. It infuses many of the activities we take part in and is an integral part of who we are as people. So when it comes time to walk down the aisle, some couples want to make the song truly unique to them. The music you choose for your wedding day will create beautiful moments that you know will stay in your memory forever. Your music and song choices are also a great way to express who you are as a couple: classical traditionalists, vintage music aficionados, or pure romantics.
One could contend that probably the most significant wedding music moment is the bridal entrance. It’s when the wedding becomes truly real and you become overcome with emotion as time slows down for just a second, and your groom, and guests await your entrance up the aisle.
Whether it’s a themed wedding with music to match or a piece that allows your personality to shine through, your choice of processional music is important. Thankfully, there are many unique musical compositions and songs to walk down the aisle to.
Remember that whilst songs aren’t your traditional processional tunes, you have plenty of flexibility when it comes to how you want them to be played. Want your DJ to play the original over the speakers as you walk down the aisle? Go for it! Want your band to play a slowed-down acoustic version of your top option? The choice is yours, and the options are endless!
The first step is to agree on the genre of music you wish to use. Will there be instruments, a pianist, a singer, a friend or a playlist that you have your heart set on? This decision will help make a number of other choices more easily, so it’s important to decide on this upfront.
You’ll create memories of the music and songs that you walk down the aisle to for years to come, so your wedding music and songs should reflect your personalities as a couple and have meaning for both of you. This can come in a few ways. Your bridal entrance song could express your feelings as the bride toward your partner: for example, do you feel like you are marrying your high school sweetheart, or has it taken a long and winding road to finally find true love? Your choice may also reflect your life as a couple and even the blending of families, especially if you’ll be walking down the aisle with your father by your side, which plays up the emotion. Or do you want to walk down the aisle to “your song”? Discuss the choice together to find the song that really speaks to you.
The actual pace of the wedding songs you select when walking down the aisle is a highly important aspect. You’ll need something with a slightly slower than normal pace so that you and your bridesmaids can walk comfortably down the aisle. It’s also worth working out when you want the song to fade so you can time your music to finish as you arrive in front of your partner.
